What we collect
- Account details. Your email address and sign-in are handled by our authentication provider. On Leftyland itself we store your username and country.
- Content you create. Listings, gear-database suggestions, forum posts and the messages you send to other members.
- Technical data. Basic log data such as your IP address and browser type, which our servers record to run the site and keep it secure.
- Analytics. If you consent, Google Analytics collects usage data about how the site is used. See our cookie policy. Without consent, no analytics data is collected.
Why we use it, and our legal basis
- To run your account and the marketplace, including showing your listings and delivering your messages. Legal basis: performance of our contract with you.
- To keep the site secure, prevent abuse, and handle reports and disputes. Legal basis: our legitimate interests in running a safe service.
- To send you service emails, such as a notice that you have a new message. Legal basis: our contract with you and our legitimate interests.
- To measure how the site is used through analytics. Legal basis: your consent, which you can withdraw at any time.
Cookies
We use a small number of cookies. The essential ones keep you signed in and remember your cookie choice. Analytics cookies are only set after you opt in. The cookie policy lists them and explains how to change your choice.
Who we share it with
We do not sell your data. We use a few service providers who process data on our behalf under contract:
- Amazon Web Services, for hosting, the database, sign-in and email delivery.
- Google, for Google Analytics, only where you have consented.
We may also disclose data where the law requires it, or to protect the rights and safety of members.
Where your data is stored
Our hosting and database are in the United Kingdom (AWS London region). Where a provider such as Google processes data outside the UK, that transfer is covered by the safeguards required under UK data protection law, such as standard contractual clauses.
How long we keep it
We keep your account data for as long as your account is open, and for a reasonable period afterwards to handle disputes, meet legal obligations and prevent abuse. Messages between members are kept so both sides have a record of a deal. When data is no longer needed we delete or anonymise it.
Your rights
Under UK GDPR you have the right to:
- ask for a copy of the data we hold about you;
- have inaccurate data corrected;
- ask us to delete your data, where we have no overriding reason to keep it;
- restrict or object to how we use it;
- receive your data in a portable form;
- withdraw consent for analytics at any time.
To exercise any of these, email hello@appylad.com. You also have the right to complain to the ICO at ico.org.uk, though we would appreciate the chance to put things right first.
Children
Leftyland is for adults. You must be 18 or over to use it, and we do not knowingly collect data about children.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as the site changes. We will update the date at the top when we do, and note anything significant.
